The littlest sis is getting to be such a big girl!!!! "I do it!" is one of her new sentences, proclaiming her independence. It kills me.

Choco-Louie and a Quilt Square!!!

The morning that the story board was due!
Notice the "props" - a chaco taco, chocolate cupcake, skate board and real cookies.
Lucy Helen had a project due last week, too: she had to design her own quilt square - any way she wanted. Her idea was pink and hearts - like "ValenTIMES".

Maury's school had a storyboard competition and she was so excited to enter her favorite book Choco-Louie, about a boy who loves chocolate. His brother bets him his skateboard that he can't live without chocolate for a week...and he makes it a whole week, resisting numerous temptations and his favorite chocolate goodies. The book is one we have gotten SEVERAL times from the library (and it's over due right now). Her board won first place (she doesn't know that she was the LONE entrant in her division). But the librarian said it would have won anyway:) That means she gets to put her storyboard in the district competition. The funniest thing was her coming home to tell me she won! She was SOOOO excited. She and Lucy Helen jumped up and down and screamed.

"Sheester"

It always amazes me to think that Lucy Helen and Rebecca are the same distance apart as Maury and Lucy Helen.... but now that R is two, the "gap" is closing. These girls are playing puppy, "daddy and other imagination games and growing closer every day. And R says "tada" and tries to do the splits like her sisters (pretty funny). But my favorite thing of late is R's name for LH - "sister" pronounced "sheester." It may not last, so I need to video her this week! The pictures above were taken as R was recovering from the stomach virus. Even though she felt bad, "sister" could make her smile.

No Other Gods Bible Study

For my "local" friends:
My friend Wendy Todd and I are co-leading (really we are just doing the Bible study along with the participants and leading the discussion) a Bible study at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday afternoons from 4:30-6p.m. starting January 18. It is called "No other Gods: Confronting our Modern-Day Idols." The author is Kelly Minter, a Christian musician/song writer/worship leader who lives in Nashville. She has a funky approach to putting God first in everything.
Minter wrote the book after meeting with a group of friends in her living room. In her words, she says, "As a group we found the topic of false gods to be a significant one; not something banned to foreign lands and ancient times, but something we deal with on a regular basis within the confines of our hearts. They can be simple things like people, houses, careers, shopping, or food; things that may have grown into idols simply by how much we desire them. Or, they can be the more obvious false gods like alcohol, drugs, or pornography. Regardless of our idols, they all take the place of God in our lives, something He is not keenly given to because of His great and jealous love for us. As a group we discovered how much God desires to free us from such powerless, yet deceptive, gods in order that we might make room for His all-surpassing presence to move in our lives. And so began the first installment of the Living Room Series, 'No Other Gods', an eight week Bible study that includes five days of homework per week, recipes for meal ideas, song suggestions that can be shared in your gathering, a helpful discussion guide in the back of the book, and a website, that will enhance your over-all experience."

For more information, go to her website, This study runs for 8 weeks and we would love for you to bring a friend and join us. It has 5 days of "homework" each week, but it is not too intense or time-consuming. Please email me if you have any questions! Hope to see you on Jan.18! There will also be a "preview" of all the Life Bible Studies Calvary will be hosting on Jan. 11, so feel free to come then and get your book ($11) or join another group. We will be discussing the first week's study on Jan. 18, so if possible get your book on the 11th at the church. Please feel free to forward this invitation on to anyone who might be interested.
