No Other Gods Bible Study

For my "local" friends:
My friend Wendy Todd and I are co-leading (really we are just doing the Bible study along with the participants and leading the discussion) a Bible study at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday afternoons from 4:30-6p.m. starting January 18. It is called "No other Gods: Confronting our Modern-Day Idols." The author is Kelly Minter, a Christian musician/song writer/worship leader who lives in Nashville. She has a funky approach to putting God first in everything.
Minter wrote the book after meeting with a group of friends in her living room. In her words, she says, "As a group we found the topic of false gods to be a significant one; not something banned to foreign lands and ancient times, but something we deal with on a regular basis within the confines of our hearts. They can be simple things like people, houses, careers, shopping, or food; things that may have grown into idols simply by how much we desire them. Or, they can be the more obvious false gods like alcohol, drugs, or pornography. Regardless of our idols, they all take the place of God in our lives, something He is not keenly given to because of His great and jealous love for us. As a group we discovered how much God desires to free us from such powerless, yet deceptive, gods in order that we might make room for His all-surpassing presence to move in our lives. And so began the first installment of the Living Room Series, 'No Other Gods', an eight week Bible study that includes five days of homework per week, recipes for meal ideas, song suggestions that can be shared in your gathering, a helpful discussion guide in the back of the book, and a website, that will enhance your over-all experience."

For more information, go to her website, This study runs for 8 weeks and we would love for you to bring a friend and join us. It has 5 days of "homework" each week, but it is not too intense or time-consuming. Please email me if you have any questions! Hope to see you on Jan.18! There will also be a "preview" of all the Life Bible Studies Calvary will be hosting on Jan. 11, so feel free to come then and get your book ($11) or join another group. We will be discussing the first week's study on Jan. 18, so if possible get your book on the 11th at the church. Please feel free to forward this invitation on to anyone who might be interested.

Carley, I ran into Wendy on Sunday and told her I was worried I'm too old for this one! She promised me I'm not, so I will see y'all there!

Hey, Kissy. We ran out of books at church. I think it is at Lifeway for 12.99. Let me know if you don't have one and I will try to get you one. It is going to be good!

Hey Mrs. Carley! :)
I have encouraged a lot of the newer girls my age who have recently joined Calvary & have been attending the Young Career class to be in this group!.. and you know I'd so be there if I weren't teaching Lucy in Cubbies. I know it will be a wonderful study! Thank you for my precious comment. It is pretty scary because I assumed it would be an easy move, from college to teaching in the same town, and who knows? God may really want me here.. we shall see! but thank you for the prayers. Tell Maury that I miss her & love her, and hug the girls for me! :)
